Who It’s For There’s a room you’d love to put a fire in—the bedroom, the basement, the wall the couch already faces—but a gas line or a chimney was never in the cards. You need a fireplace that runs on electricity and nothing else . If you want a wide, modern flame you can tune to the room, with heat on cold nights and none in July, the Dimplex Prism 50 is the one. Choose it and the fire runs year-round; the heater only joins in when you ask. What Makes It Special The Prism flame is a full-width LED display over a bed of acrylic crystals, and the color is yours: pre-set themes or any custom shade you dial in . Classic orange for a Friday-night fire, cool blue for a summer evening, the exact tone that matches the room. The crystals catch the light and glitter under the flame, so the fire looks lit from within rather than painted on. Flame and heat run separately. In July the fire burns with the heater off; in January the fan-forced heater holds the room at the temperature you set —enough warmth to carry a large living area on its own or back up the furnace in a bigger one. And because it’s electric, it can plug into an ordinary outlet on the wall or be recessed into the wall for a built-in look. Possible Downsides • Ships with clear acrylic crystals only ; tumbled glass, river rock, black rock, and log-set media are optional add-ons. • The Cohesion surround is sold separately , in black or burnished walnut, if you want a trimmed-out face. • Flame and heat both need electricity ; in a power outage it gives you neither. If the fire you want is in a room that could never have one, the Prism 50 is the right decision. The room it hangs in becomes the one everyone ends up in. The Prism 50 takes ember beds of tumbled glass, river rock, black rock, or clear acrylic crystal, faux-wood log sets from beach driftwood to thin split logs, and a Cohesion surround in black or burnished walnut, so the fire fits the room you already have.
