Cast iron heat for the room the furnace never quite reaches. Quick Facts • Heating Capacity: 500–1,000 sq ft • Fuel: Natural gas (propane conversion kit available). • Controls: Optional remote or wall-mounted thermostat; the millivolt version needs no electricity. • Fan: Optional Who It’s For Every house has one: the den, the sunroom, the small living room at the far end of the ductwork that never feels as warm as the rest of the house. You need real heat that fits a small footprint . If you want a gas fire for a modest room—without giving up a wall of floor space to get it—the Napoleon Arlington is built for exactly that. Put an oversized stove in the same room and it will cook you out of it ; this one is sized to hold the room comfortable, not chase you from it. What Makes It Special The body is cast iron, and behind the ceramic glass sits a PHAZER log set over a glowing ember bed, backed by mirror-finish porcelain panels that reflect the flames —so the fire looks deeper and fuller than the compact box it burns in. Here’s the part that matters in January: the millivolt Arlington needs no electricity to make heat . When a winter storm takes the power out, the fire keeps going and the cast iron keeps radiating warmth into the room. The Arlington is also sold with electronic ignition, which has a battery back-up: keep four AA batteries in it and the fire still lights when the power goes out. Add the optional thermostatic remote and it holds the room at the temperature you set, cycling on its own. Possible Downsides • The fan is optional, not included —without it, the stove heats by radiating from the cast iron rather than pushing warm air across the room. • Remote and thermostat controls are optional too ; out of the box, you operate it at the stove. • It’s built for smaller rooms —not the stove for a large open floor plan. If you want a real gas fire in a room a full-size stove would overwhelm, the Arlington is the right decision. The small room you used to walk past becomes the one everyone ends up in. The Arlington comes in metallic black or majolica brown and can be finished with optional andirons and Ambient-Glow ember accents.
