Who It’s For

You want the long, low ribbon of a modern linear fire, but the room is a den, a bedroom, or a condo living room, and an oversized fireplace will cook you out of it. You need a linear fire scaled to the room it’s in. If you’re finishing a smaller space and want the fire to be the focal point without turning the room into a sauna, the Ascent Linear BL36 is the one. Choose a full-size linear instead and you’ll spend the winter running it on low with the door cracked.

What Makes It Special

Most linear fireplaces are built for big open floor plans. The BL36 gives you the same wide sheet of flame with lower heat output, so it can burn all evening in a smaller room instead of ten minutes at a time. The fire runs over the included topaz CRYSTALINE ember bed—crushed glass that glows under the flame like embers that never burn down.

It’s also ready for a bad night in January: it still starts when the power’s out, as long as you’ve kept batteries in the backup. Add the optional eFire app and flame height and fan speed run from your phone, or keep it simple with a handheld remote or a wall thermostat.

Possible Downsides

• The fan is optional, not included. If you want warm air pushed across the room, add the blower kit.
• Remote, wall thermostat, and app control are all optional. None of them comes in the box.
• This is the smallest heater in the Ascent Linear line. For a larger room, look at the BL42 through the BL76.

If you want a linear fire in a room a full-size linear would overheat, the Ascent Linear BL36 is the right decision. The room it’s in becomes the room the house lives in.

The included topaz ember bed can be swapped or mixed with the Beach Fire log set, Mineral Rocks, Shore Fire or Woodland media kits, or glass beads and embers in a range of colors, and MIRRO-FLAME reflective black porcelain panels and a four-sided black finishing trim round out the look.
