Who It’s For

There’s a wall in your house—or out on the covered patio—that’s been waiting for a fire, and there’s no chimney or gas line anywhere near it. You need a fire that runs on electricity alone—no chimney, no gas line. If you want a big linear flame going on an ordinary Tuesday in July as easily as a snowed-in Saturday, the Ignite Evolve 74 is the one. Choose it and the flames run year-round with the heat off, indoors or out, so the fire follows wherever the evening goes.

What Makes It Special

Most electric fireplaces live indoors and stay there. This one is certified for outdoor use under a sheltered overhang, so the fire that anchors the living room in January can anchor the covered patio in June—same flames, same controls, same six feet of glass.

The fire itself is yours to shape. Flame color and speed can be set on their own or called up in one of seven presets, and an ambient light sensor tunes the firebox brightness to the room on its own, so the fire reads right at noon and at midnight. In July, run the flames with the heat off; in January, the built-in heater adds comfort warmth for up to 1,000 square feet.

It also recesses fully into the wall, with or without trim, so the glass runs edge to edge and the fire looks built in, not hung on.

Possible Downsides

• The ember bed is a required, separate purchase—tumbled glass, river rocks, black rocks, or acrylic crystals.
